Outline and tourism of Nanae Town

Nanae Town, which has been nurtured by a mild climate and magnificent natural surroundings, expresses itself differently in each season and attracts many visitors as a sightseeing spot.

With a population of 28,827 (as of October 2014), Nanae Town is blessed with rich natural surroundings, such as Onuma Quasi-National Park (which includes Mt. Komagatake, Lake Onuma, Lake Konuma and Lake Junsai), Mt. Yokozudake and Niyama Highland, and has thriving agriculture (rice, crops, fruit) and dairy/livestock faming industries. Located in southwestern Hokkaido, the town has Hokkaido’s mildest climate and low precipitation. In such a pleasant climate, visitors can enjoy beautiful seasonal landscapes that are unique to Hokkaido.

The population of the town rapidly increased after 1975 as a commuter suburb of Hakodate City along with Kamiiso Town and Ono Town (both are currently Hokuto City), and exceeded 20,000 for the first time in the 1980 census.The number of visitors to Nanae Town in 2013 was 1,980,641, an increase of 11.4% over the previous year.
