Lake Junsainuma

It is the place that did well as the center of sightseeing in Onuma in the times from the Edo to Meiji.
Water shield picking in Summer, and ice pond smelt fishing in Winter are seasonal tradition in Onuma.

Lake Junsainuma was the center of sightseeing until railroad service was opened in Onuma in 1903, and Matsuura Takeshiro who was explorer in the late Tokugawa period trip also. In 1872, Kuroda Kiyotaka who was a vice-minister of develop Hokkaido named this marsh Lake Junsainuma. It’s known place where English explorer Isabella Bird tripped. It is popular spot for Ice fishing on the ice at the beginning of January to the beginning of March.
